What does it mean to live a passionate life? Does it involve activism, athleticism, sensualism, fandom, or simply having a vast collection of shoes?
And where did passion begin – did it originate in God? Fourteenth-century Meister Eckhart describes God’s inner life as ‘boiling’ with the overflow of this being creation. This vision "offers a glimpse of the divine imagination", says John O’Donohue. "It shows that there is not a stitch of utilitarianism or functionalism in God. God is never still. God surges and flows and is wild”.
If we were to bubble up and pour out of ourselves, what would emerge– a quiet stream or an active volcano? Should we be passively or actively passionate in these days that are about to erupt and burst out of themselves?
