Nostalgia

Candles burn out. Seasons come and go. When we attach a lot of importance to the things of the world, we can find ourselves feeling snuffed out when everything changes.
We long for a "return to normal" and tighten our grip on nostalgic memories of the past. Our emotions drive us deeper into our own ideas, opinions and desires. We end up returning to our "selves" rather than walking the less-traveled road of obedience to God.
But if our cravings are rooted instead in the blessed hope found in our Lord Jesus Christ, our hearts are set on eternity and we have no need for any kind of "normal".
"While we look not at the things which are seen,
but at the things which are not seen:
for the things which are seen are temporal;
but the things which are not seen are eternal."
2 Corinthians 4:18 KJV
